The Order was approved by Parliament and came into force on the  1st October 2006.  The Order applies to all non-domestic premises and includes those used by the volunteer sector and self-employed who use premises that are separate from their homes.


The Order in principle requires employers or persons who have control of the premises (i.e. the designated responsible person), to protect the safety of employees and to take such fire precautions that are required to ensure the premises are safe.

The RRFSO requires a risk assessment to be carried out which should cover the following areas:-
